Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization
Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization (EMDR) is a heavily researched and proven method to help people recover from trauma, PTSD, and other distressing life experiences. EMDR involves people re-experiencing past traumas while engaging in bilateral stimulation. The bilateral stimulation creates dual awareness, which ensures that clients are grounded in the safe environment of the therapist’s office. By reconnecting people to the images, emotions, and body sensations associated with trauma in a safe and measured way, the brain is able to reprocess events with adaptive resolution. EMDR gives the brain and body access to their natural healing abilities that were not available during the fight, flight, freeze, or collapse response of the traumatic event.
